The focus of OHA is on original websites aiming at communicating history materials and topics through innovative formats and designs, mainly based on visual means.
Web projects on any historical theme, event, era, about or made in any geographic area are welcome. Since disciplinary boundaries tend to blur on the Web, no preference is made between history subfields such as political history, cultural history or social history; this inclusive approach incorporates different humanities disciplines focusing on the study of the past, such as art history or the history of literature. Priority is given to projects based on the contribution of professional historians, supervised by scientific committees, or developed by reliable institutions. The only possible exceptions are those experiences which, although lacking such requirements, offer design elements, presentation solutions ora narrative choices that can be useful and interesting for the study of digital history practices.
The portal acknowledges only projects specially conceived for the Web. Works not presenting the unique elements of this medium—such as videos, texts or PDFs, which are consultable also offline—will not be considered. The choice is limited to web projects that are not mainly based on linear writing, but rather on visual means. Thus, several other types of formats are discarded: blogs, forums, online books, journals and magazines, and so forth.
Since the focus of the archive is not on the teaching but rather on the communication of history to the public, web initiatives addressing only scholars such as online syllabi and interactive exercises will not be taken into account.
All those projects that exist only in the form of social media pages or accounts, will be excluded. Projects clearly sharing historical sources or information for personal, political, aesthetic or humorous purposes will not be considered.
When submitting a project, please always include a working URL link of the website.
